Our Online Summer School on “Enhancing Academic
Qualifications in Teaching and Research in Global Health" is designed for young researchers from developing countries in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, South East Asia and South Asia who participate in the In-Country / In-Region Programme of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Every year
the DAAD awards more than 1,000 BMZ-funded scholarships to junior researchers
from Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, South East Asia and South Asia to
help finance their Master’s or PhD programmes in their home country or region.
The overall objective of the Online Summer School is to further improve research and teaching capacities of young academicians (Master and PhD) in health relevant fields from developing countries. Special emphasis is put on the development of additional professional and interdisciplinary competence in 1) Creating a Digital Learning Environment, 2) Participatory Teaching Techniques in a Digital Age 3) Quality and Ethics in Human Health Research and 4) Grant Proposal Writing, in order to better prepare the participants for a future career in the international academic community.

The 2021 Summer School will be delivered online with learning activities spread over the course of two
months between 15.07.-14.09.2021. Detailed information is provided in the Call for Applications.
Application deadline is April 6th, 2021, 23:59 Central European Time. Any applications submitted after
the deadline or incomplete applications will not be considered.

letter by academic supervisor or employer (dated, stamped and signed) (including 1) a specific statement granting
permission for the applicant to attend the online training in Germany at
indicated dates and 2) a statement by the supervisor explicitely mentioning
that participation in the summer school will not jeopardize the timely
completion of the study programme); to be submitted as PDF.
3. Proof of English proficiency (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL test result or alternatively confirmation by university that
prior higher education programme was conducted in English).
